Description
It identifies six common social problems: poverty, corruption, unemployment, terrorism, natural disasters, and crimes. For each problem, it provides details on causes and effects. It also discusses how technology can help resolve issues related to climate change, poverty, education, and public safety. Seven basic ethical issues arise in social science research: informed consent, deception, privacy (including confidentiality and anonymity), physical or mental distress, problems in sponsored research, scientific misconduct or fraud, and scientific advocacy. Concerned with the human world and society, this field investigates the economy, human behavior, social institutions, and politics. Social science has to wrestle with the problem of human beings creating explanations about themselves and their society when they are part and parcel of that society. Factors Affecting Objectivity:
It is very difficult to achieve objectivity in social science research. This difficulty arises out of the adverse influences of (a) personal prejudices and bias, (b) value judgement, (c) ethical dilemma and (d) complexity of social phenomena.
